Health Risks

High blood pressure

You are more likely to be told your blood pressure is too high as you get older because your blood vessels become stiffer as you age. Many patients will have no symptoms and less common symptoms may differ among pregnant women, children, and adults. Symptoms may include headaches, irritability, dizziness, and many others that may contribute to the complications described below. More serious long-term consequences include stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney diseases and others that can lead to early death.

High blood sugar

It is a condition in which an excessive amount of glucose circulates in the blood plasma. Symptoms include:

  • Excessive Thirst and Hunger
  • Polyuria - frequent urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue (sleepiness)
  • Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
  • Tingling in feet or heels
  • Erectile dysfunction for male
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Coma
  • Seizures

Serious complications include diabetes, kidney damage, neurological damage, cardiovascular damage, damage to the retina or damage to feet and legs.

High cholesterol

Although high cholesterol doesn’t exhibit any symptoms, it does lead to thickening of arteries if not dealt with properly. It also causes clogging in the arteries that progressively narrows the arteries until it is completely blocked. A sudden block in the arteries can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Restricting blood flow can also impair your tissues and organs as they are deprived of oxygen and nutrients.
